Since he was a child, he loved history very much, especially military history. That mainly was due to the stories his father Tommaso told him about his experiences in the World War II. Instead, his passion for uniforms comes from his mother Giovanna, a tailor. Giuseppe Rava expands his knowledge about history and warfare attending a wargame club. Thanks to dedicated books and magazines, he gets acquainted with military painters such as Detaille, Meissonier, De Neuville, Rochling, Ottenfeld and others. And he wished he could paint like them, some day. Self-taught, he was soon noticed by some publishers and he started with illustrating children's books. Now he usually works on historical subjects. Presently, Rava's illustrations are used by "ITALERI", "HAT INDUSTRIE", "HISTOIRE ET COLLECTIONS", "A CALL TO ARMS", "BACK FALCON PUBLICATION", "EDITRICE MILITARE ITALIANA", "ANDREA MINIATURES", "EMHAR".

Wer sich für lateinamerikanische Militärgeschichte im Allgemeinen , und für den Großen Paraguay-Krieg im Besonderen interessiert , kann und sollte hier unbedingt zuschlagen ! Eine hervorragende (vor allem visuelle) Ergänzung zu "Francisco Solano Lopez..." von Jürgen Meister (Biblio-Verlag 1987) , DEM Referenzwerk zu dieser Thematik im deutschsprachigen Raum .Das Werk punktet vor allem durch die zahlreichen Uniform - Farbillustrationen , und die erstaunlich guten Schwarz-Weiß Fotografien .Hintergründe und Kriegsverlauf werden eher allgemein umrissen . Die Bewaffnung aller beteiligten Streitkräfte wird zwar in gesonderten Kapiteln behandelt , allerdings fehlt es hier leider an Zeichnungen oder Fotos zu den erwähnten Blank- , Handfeuer- und Artilleriewaffen , was etwas schade ist . Das Buch kommt in Broschur-Form mit Soft-Cover daher , was auch bedauerlich ist . Dem durchaus wertigen Inhalt würde ein ordentliches Hard-Cover weit besser zu Ehre gereichen , und ich persönlich wäre gern bereit gewesen , dafür zehn Euro mehr auszugeben ... .Kritisieren , ohne dafür Punktabzug geben zu wollen , möchte ich an dieser Stelle die generelle Art , wie Bücher oder andere Druckerzeugnisse von Amazon versandt werden . Dies geschieht meistens ungenügend . Zwar sind die Bücher in (eigentlich) recht stabilen Papp-Versandtaschen verpackt , die Bücher allerdings in der Regel nicht noch mal extra gesichert (Folien-eingeschweißt , in Folientaschen verpackt , in Noppenfolie gewickelt , oder wenigstens noch einmal in Seidenpapier eingeschlagen) , was auf dem Zustell-Weg Beschädigungen fast schon vorprogrammiert , vor allem , wenn mehrere Bücher in einer Versandtasche verschickt werden , und dabei lose aneinander reiben , oder bei nasser Witterung die Papp-Versandtasche durchweicht wird , oder mechanische Beanspruchung bei der Zustellung ( grobe Behandlung , fallen lassen , "durch die Gegend schmeißen" u.s.w. ) z.B. Stauchungen am Buchrücken verursachen . Das ist ärgerlich , und sollte von Amazon abgestellt werden !!!
